Elaine Bayes BSc (Hons), MSc- Ecologist

Elaine Bayes is the Co-director and Ecologist at Rakali Ecological Consulting, which has been operating since 2012.  During this time Elaine has carried out flora and fauna (predominantly frogs and birds) surveys in wetlands and associated grasslands predominantly across Northern Victoria.  Elaine has co-authored many reports relating to wetland monitoring, restoration and management (see publications list).  Elaine also develops and manages Rakali’s training courses and materials.

Elaine has been working in the environmental management and conservation training since 1994.  Elaine has worked as an ecologist for the Department of Sustainability and Environment, Australian Ecosystems and Melbourne University since 2006 carrying out flora and fauna monitoring and writing land management reports and plans. Prior to this Elaine was an environmental educator for 10 years: as Co-ordinator of the Sustainable River Management Diploma and lecturer in Conservation and Land Management at Bendigo, Cranbourne and Rosanna TAFE and as the education and training manager for Greening Australia Victoria where she managed a range of local and state-wide training programs.

Earlier in her career Elaine worked as an environmental scientist in a range of environmental organisations including: senior environmental consultant with Meinhardt Consulting developing Environmental Management Plans, site assessments and rehabilitation planning; four years as an environmental officer with the Environment Protection Authority in their operations unit overseeing industrial activities across Victoria, specialising in water quality issues; and three years with the CRC for Freshwater Ecology as a researcher and Masters Student in Limnology.

Areas of expertise from this experience include: education and training, wetland ecology and management, water quality expertise, knowledge of environmental legislation; catchment and environmental management.
